A Lesson in Governance

The current political crisis over UK MPs expenses provides some object lessons in what not to do. It demonstrates as well what happens when people actually make claims within the rules, but do not stop to recognize that the rules themselves may be in error.

This video from UK blogger Beau Bo D’Or is an entertaining look at what happens when process gets out of control, leadership is lacking and governance fails.

The whole affair is a good reminder that governance needs to be unerpinned by concrete principle and values and is not just compliance with process. It must be set within the context of an overall framework which embodies a strong and acceptable culture.
