The Economist on the ‘Cloud’

Following my recent post on Nicholas Carr’s views on the ‘Cloud’, I read The Economist Special Report on Corporate IT accompanying the issue of October 23, 2008.

Essentially this is a number of articles on various aspects of the ‘Cloud’. The link is to the first article in the report. You may need to register for the site to access.

The articles provide some useful information for managers and others.

One response to “The Economist on the ‘Cloud’

  1. Peter, hi.

That was a good report in The Economist. It caught my eye for two reasons. First, Altium increasingly runs its business over the cloud. We are, surprisingly, one of’s largest accounts worldwide, and we’re moving both our financial management systems and our US tax management systems into the cloud over the next few months.

Second, we’re increasingly moving our own software (for the design of electronic systems) into the cloud.

At the same time, we also say that electronics design (the creation of devices, and putting stuff onto boards) will have to move to the cloud, and that all electronic systems (not just phones and laptops) will connect.

If you read the Economist report, and replace “IT” with “electronics design” you could be reading about Altium.
